Nursing Community Assessment Service (NCAS)
NCAS is the competency assessment exam for the Internationally Educated health care professionals who wish to practice in the province of British Columbia (Canada). This exam is applicable to the following:
- Health Care Assistants
- Licensed Practical Nurses
- Registered Nurses
- Registered Psychiatric Nurses.
The exam consists of:
- Computer Based Assessment (CBA): This is the written component of the exam which consists of around 18-20 scenarios where each of these scenarios is followed by 5-6 questions. There are around 100 questions in total which must be completed in 3 hours.
- Simulation Lab Assessment (SLA): This is the practicum part of NCAS where the candidate is tested within the scope of practice of their profession in a simulated setting. They are expected to perform their skills and demonstrate their practice based on the practice standards laid out by the Canadian regulatory bodies.
- Oral Assessment (OA): This is an oral interview which is followed by each station of the SLA. The assessor can ask up to three questions in the period of 10 minutes.
